The Glenrothes 18 Years Old: a multi-dimensional flavor experience

We were dazzled with 18 year old single malt from Glenrothes, released as part of the Soleo Collection.

Pale straw in color, this scotch yields splendid aromas of orange oil, vanilla pods and almonds. On the palate we tasted sweet pears and vanilla alongside hints of ginger and rose water. The sweet finish had a burst of spiciness and a slightly peppery surprise. This is scotch full of complexity and balance.

The Soleo series was named after the process of sun-drying grapes for the production of sherry in Jerez, and as such you should expect plenty of sherry notes throughout the range. Grapes placed under the heat of the Andalusian sun absorb plenty of energy and they change from bright green and yellow to deep purpl– signaling the perfect moment for fermentation. The Glenrothes 18 year old features a very high proportion of first-fill sherry seasoned oak cask matured whisky at its core.

Matured entirely in sherry-seasoned oak casks and 100% natural color, this Collection introduces a multi-dimensional flavor experience, uniquely shaped by the casks in which the spirit has been nurtured and matured.

Priced around $175 a bottle and well worth it. http://www.theglenrothes.com
