If you’re looking for a great read on our economy with an emphasis on real estate and funny stories, I’ve got a weekly newsletter you’re going to love.  Fellow polo player, Lloyd Segal (President of the Los Angeles County Real Estate Investors Club), publishes MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK, an in-depth economic and valuable update every Monday morning.  The newsletter contains the latest news on subjects like existing home sales, housing starts, commercial/industrial sales, interest rates, employment, retail sales, gross domestic product, and related economic data, all with a delightful twist and a wicked sense of humor.  A great Monday morning read!  

Readers of my newsletter know I enjoy profiling accomplished people and Lloyd fits that bill.  Lloyd’s an interesting fellow and world traveler (not to mention his college summers working with a circus traveling around the United States or working on a kibbutz in Israel during his summer breaks during law school). More significantly, Lloyd is a volunteer member of Mercy Ships, which provides humanitarian assistance after natural disasters around the world. In 2005, Lloyd traveled to New Orleans and volunteered in the dangerous recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city and killed over 1,800 residents.

In 2010, Lloyd went to Port-a-Prince after an earthquake-devastated Haiti, putting his life at risk in the relief and recovery efforts after the earthquake destroyed homes and killed over 220,000 people. Lloyd did it again in 2014 after a typhoon and tsunami destroyed Phuket, Thailand, but was stopped at the border because he didn’t have sufficient vaccinations. And of course, Lloyd will volunteer again the next time a natural disaster strikes somewhere in our world. 

Lloyd, like me, is an avid horseman. He is a member of the United States Polo Association, and the former President (nine years!) of the Will Rogers Polo Club in Pacific Palisades, California.  Lloyd is the author of four real estate books, including “Stop Foreclosure Now in California” (Nolo Press), and “Stop Foreclosure Now” (American Management Association). In 2019, “Stop Foreclosure Now” was selected “Best Personal Finance Book of the Year” by USA Today Book News, based on his book helping homeowners avoid losing their homes in foreclosure. Lloyd also wrote “Foreclosure Investing” (Regency Publishing) to educate real estate investors on buying foreclosures. Lloyd’s newest book, “Flipping Houses,” describes how to get started finding, financing, fixing, and flipping houses. No less than the Wall Street Journal referred to Lloyd as “One of America’s Big Flippers” based upon the huge houses he fixes and then flips in and around Los Angeles.
