Santa Barbara’s iconic Lobero Theatre will present Dessert with Mozart: A Music Dialogue and Chamber Music Performance on Friday, July 31 at 7 PM. Savor an unforgettable musical feast that goes far beyond the traditional concert experience. This immersive experience offers a feast for the senses and a rare opportunity to enjoy Mozart in an entirely new way. Like an evening at a world-class chef’s table, Dessert with Mozart invites audiences into the creative kitchen, where master musicians reveal the artistry, craftsmanship, and inspiration behind a musical masterpiece.
Witness the ingredients of great performance come together as acclaimed Music Conductor Heiichiro Ohyama (viola) and Chamber Orchestra musicians Timothy Durkovic (piano), Elizabeth Hedman (violin), and Trevor Handy (cello) prepare the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, K. 478. Observe their trial and error as the artists dissect the score, experiment with interpretation, and uncover the subtle flavors hidden within Mozart’s manuscript. The first part of the evening concludes with an engaging Q&A, guided by Concert Navigator Miho Ito, where audiences will gain rare insight into the decisions, discoveries, and collaborative processes that shape every note.
During intermission, enjoy complimentary dessert on the Esplanade before returning for a full performance of all three movements of the evening’s musical entrée. Having experienced the creative preparation firsthand, you’ll enjoy the finished masterpiece with a deeper appreciation for its richness, complexity, and beauty. This event made possible by the generosity of Mahri Kerley.
