RIZZOLI PUBLISHES STUNNING NEW BOOK ON JOHN YAU

ENTREE was fascinated with Rizzoli Electa’s compelling new book on Eric Aho, the artist’s first ever dedicated monograph, with text by John Yau and an interview with Janne Sirén. Published to coincide with Eric Aho: Meadow’s Edge, on view at DC Moore Gallery, New York in October 2026, Eric Aho marks an important moment for one of the leading painters of landscape and environment of his generation.

Eric Aho has been a working artist for decades, and yet, his incredible story has scarcely been published. Now, this new monograph details four decades of his global artistic evolution: from the artist’s exploration of his Finnish heritage and resulting travels to Finland–as well as the deeply inspiring time spent in Norway, Cuba, and Russia–to the luminous Ice Cuts, through the visceral Fire Paintings, and into the recent Wild Meadow and Firefly series. This lush volume reveals how the different places he’s studied, his own ever-accumulating influences, and personal and historical preoccupations have shaped an approach to landscape and environmental painting that is truly remarkable, effectual, and all his own.

Featuring two gatefolds and stunning reproductions that illuminate Aho’s singular approach to painting nature—its atmospheres, transformations, and unseen energies. we know of no better vivid and immersive celebration of an artist who brings new vision and vitality to landscape painting today.

As DC Moore Gallery, which has long represented the artist, puts it: Eric Aho’s work occupies “a zone of perception between sober realism and ecstatic abstraction.” On each canvas, organic swaths of color synergize, immersing viewers in the enigmatic and powerful whims of nature, while expressing Aho’s personal connections with the sites he paints, as well as the dynamics, limitations, and possibilities inherent in the reflexivity of communing with nature and remembering place.

John Yau brings Aho’s under-told personal and educational history to his work, revealing it in newfound nuance, while stunning photography collates illustrative selections from Aho’s canon. In all, this monograph offers the most comprehensive account of the artist’s work to date. Beautifully produced, with gatefolds, Eric Aho marks a significant moment in the artist’s career and preserves his lasting contributions to contemporary landscape and environmental painting.
