We rave about Dutton-Goldfield wines

While we’re raving about wines, we want to rave about 2014 Dutton-Goldfield Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Dutton family has been working the land in Sonoma County since the 1880s. Today, they sustainably and organically farm 1,300 acres (1100 in vineyards, 200 in apple orchards) in the Russian River Valley and Green Valley AVAs. Their grapes are prized by some of the most respected wineries in California. The Dutton-Goldfield classic Russian River Valley Chardonnay, about $38, is made from grapes especially chosen based on the winemaker’s (half of the partnership here is winemaker Dan Goldfield) desire to offer wines with fruit intensity, richness and great acid structure, even after full barrel and malolactic fermentation. Dutton Ranch farms over eighty unique, separate vineyards located in the coolest areas of the Russian River Valley, primarily in the Green Valley sub-appellation, and their Dutton-Goldfield Pinot blend, $44, represents their best vision for the character of this special region: juicy berry fruit in both the nose and the mouth, solid structure and fine tannins, and alluring balance.
