The iconic Georgian Hotel is one block from the ocean in Santa Monica and can’t be missed—look for the bright blue building with striped awnings and a sprawling porch just across from the pier and opposite Palisades Park. Built in 1933, The Georgian is full of personality and style and retains much of its Art Deco style.
The hotel has officially unveiled their 2015/2016 Suite Refresh to their collection of Signature and Ocean View Suites throughout eight stories of glamour and tradition. Fourteen Signature Suites and fourteen Ocean View Suites have received this new elevated level of new furnishings.
Each suite boasts elements of The Georgian’s iconic art deco motif with new modern details and a refined style that charms the present-day traveler while never losing the essence of the relaxed Santa Monica experience. While the rooms boast a new look, the spectacular ocean views that have been enticing guests for over 80 years remain unchanged. In the living room, a comfortable yet chic love seat disguises a hidden foam-mattress sleeper sofa and complements an elegant chaise lounge that together evoke a familiar sense of home. Enhancements to the bedrooms include custom-made, 300-thread count plush bedding along with light, oceanic toned lounge chairs with sleek geometric shapes and ornamentation. Dynamically-styled carpeting throughout the suite with bold patterns and neutral colors balance the space to bring together all that encompasses coastal luxury.
Our spacious suite (the Carole Lombard, directly across from the Clark Gable Suite) was furnished with contemporary furniture and we declare the comfortable goose-down bed heavenly. Photographs on the walls were tasteful and refined and the bedside lighting excellent. The views directly onto the ocean were breathtaking. A bathroom, large enough to run laps in, was stocked nicely. Perks at The Georgian include free WiFi and 24/7 room service, fully-stocked mini-bars, robes and in-room Keurig coffee machines. The suites add more flat-screen TVs and living areas with pull-out sofas.
The Georgian has all the amenities of a more costly hotel: dine in style for their popular breakfast, busy lunch or tranquil dinner at The Veranda Restaurant, located on-site and enjoy Mediterranean-fusion cuisine indoor or outdoors. Be sure and try one of the famous Art Deco martinis, the Georgini. A gym awaits the more energetic. Pet turndown service, if you bring Fido, provides a mat, water bowl, toy and treat.
If you yearn for Old-Hollywood glamour at reasonable rates, this is the place. The Georgian’s rich legacy speaks for itself and the hotel’s staff is authentically kind and friendly. You can expect a contemporary stay accented with authentic, vintage charm.
Best of all, The Georgian’ beachfront locale is perfect for a truly unique Santa Monica experience. There’s much to do in Santa Monica, all within a few steps of The Georgian:
beach, eclectic shopping, the pier and unparalleled people watching. There is even a very lively Irish pub just around the corner. The Georgian is a sanctuary full of character and charm. Even the elevator has patina and bespeaks of a more graceful age when hotelkeeping was an art.
Rates start at $329, a real bargain in Santa Monica. Located at 1415 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90401, (310) 395-9945, http://www.georgianhotel.com
